The upper plate of Sector 1 was a residential are of Midgar that was rocked by the explosion of the reactor. The explosion toppled many of its buildings, and the sector has been sealed off by Shinra. Beneath the plate it is pitch dark in most places, with a lack of electrical light.

The upper plate of Sector 2 is home to Shinra's airstation. Beneath is a quiet slum with a large population of people who have attempted to keep outsiders out of their home. Shinra employees may pass through at will, but others have to watch out for the local militia.

Sector 3 is an enormous military installation that houses most of Shinra's troops. Beneath the plate is a military training area.

Sector 4 is home to several manufacturing factories above its plate. Beneath the plate is a dump that contains all of Upper Midgar's garbage. Many slum dwellers search Sector 4 for treasures from above.

Sector 5 is home to a large residential area that is home to some of Midgar's wealthiest citizens. After it's reactor was destroyed electricity from other sectors was leeched to provide for it, though it has since been restored. Beneath is a heavily populated slum, and the remnants of the original town that was settled long before Shinra existed. Sector 5 is the only place in Midgar that flowers still grow.

The plate above Sector 6 was never completed due to budget constrains. Beneath is the notorious Wall Market, home to a great deal of gang activity and vice. The neighboring Sector 7 was crushed when the pillar supporting the plate was destroyed.

Home to a large and vibrant commercial and entertainment district on top of the plate. Densely populated, it is the only district with a train that still goes into the slums. Beneath the sector is a large slum that mostly houses service workers who work on the surface.
